Finance & Commerce announces 2017 Progress Minnesota awards

The late Todd Klingel, who led the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce for 13 years before stepping down in March 2016 because of cancer, is among the honorees in Finance & Commerce’s 2017 Progress Minnesota awards program.

Klingel, who died last October, was a publisher, civic leader and longtime Minneapolis advocate.

Now in its sixth year, the Progress Minnesota awards recognize those who drive business growth and economic development across Minnesota in innovative ways.

A panel of independent judges who specialize in economic development recognized Klingel and 27 other individuals, companies, organizations and institutions for their outstanding efforts.

The honorees will be feted April 6 at an event at the Minneapolis Event Center.

LEGISLATION HALTED IN WASHINGTON STATE TO PROVIDE TAX SUBSIDIES TO ONE ASPECT OF THE BUILDING COMMUNITY

"It's not the role of the fovernment to pick winners and losers in the marketplace with taxpayer subsidies."

Olympia, Washington – The Washington State Legislature is no longer considering a bill that would have granted tax breaks for the use of a product known as cross laminated timber (CLT). At the onset, the legislation seemed like a bill designed to promote the state’s venerable timber industry, but local advocates pushed back citing a number of unintended consequences that they believe jeopardized the safety of at-risk populations, including the disruption of the market place for building/design products, and the unintended consequences on an already tight state budget.
