Description:
No other material could have accomplished the criteria of form and function like the Cemstone decorative concrete used in this project. The designers and owners wanted to capture a free flowing, organic sense of place. To accomplish this goal, the project features a prominent two story concrete staircase that morphs into a landing area, seating bench, and eventually to a 50 foot long bar surface. To top it off, a striking trio of solid concrete ramp sinks are the unisex restroom’s focal point.
The biggest challenge was taking a design that had no specific installation or structural parameters, and devising a system to achieve a unified look throughout several applications of concrete that were both cast in place and off site. Since the goal was to have the illusion of the concrete stair treads flowing into the bar top as one organic, seamless mass, it was imperative that materials and installation were well executed.
Concrete is the ideal material for this type of structure because of its adaptability, durability, flexibility, and in this case, modern appearance. Few other materials could have met the vision of the designers and owners, much less with the value of concrete.
The overwhelming statement that the material makes in this upscale restaurant, targeted to a demographic that appreciates its unique, refined food and presentation, is that concrete is bursting outside its traditional role of gray sidewalks and driveways into a whole new world of color and design where the only limit is your imagination.
