Not only will this be the first LEED Platinum Building in Minnesota, it will also be the first building in Minnesota to achieve an Innovation and Design (ID) Credit for Cement Reduction. Combine this with the fact that the structure consists of a post-tensioned concrete system and it adds up to a challenge from both a design and construction standpoint. This project also demonstrates that concrete is truly a sustainable product. Not only did the concrete earn an ID credit, it also contributed 8% of the required 20% of the materials that were locally extracted and harvested, which in turn earned the project an additional 2 points. The concrete also contributed nearly $145,000 in recycled materials which also contributed to LEED points.
