Considered the highest profile project in Cemstone’s 80-plus year history, the I-35W St. Anthony Falls bridge will open in late 2008. Cemstone has risen to the challenge of the I-35W rebuild with mixes optimized for the schedule, the site, the climate and the performance requirements.
The Cemstone Engineering Services team developed four primary concrete mixes to provide superior durability and multiple levels of structural redundancy. These concrete mixes are being delivered to the bridge site from Cemstone’s north Minneapolis plant, located less than one mile away.
The white concrete bridge follows the primary design theme of "Arches, Water, Reflection," and features lighting and landscaping that will paint a modern archway over the Mississippi and respect the area's surroundings, history and nearby architecture.
Designed to have a service life of 100 Minnesota winters, Cemstone’s contributions to the bridge are part of an overall team effort with FIGG Engineering, Flatiron-Manson and the Minnesota DOT.
