This complex design required a tight specification and teamwork to ensure an outcome befitting this memorial to the more than 326,000 Minnesotans of all races and religions who served in the armed forces of the United States during World War II, and the more than 6,000 who gave their lives.   The World War II Memorial plaza area includes approximately 12,000 square feet of colored concrete paving, supplied by Cemstone. In addition, the Memorial contains more than 15,000 square feet of plain concrete paving.

Due to the difficulty of the design, there were many challenges involved with this project. Bulach completed the large radius saw cuts by hand, a chamfered saw cuts were placed to create a warmer look.  Moreover, to create different shades within the bands and radius, Bulach masked the band individually and then sand blasted.

Cemstone and Bulach took extra precaution to ensure color consistency, and the finished product exceeded the quality expectations set by the state of Minnesota. Cemstone was involved from the start of this project by developing the specifications, samples and mock-up procedures.
