Cemstone also became a part of the project, donating high performance concrete and placing services. The "Extreme Makeover" crew arrived Sept. 30 to start the project. Several local businesses and hundreds of volunteers lent a hand in the construction process.

Dirk and Susan Devries and their three children live near Hayward, Minn., a rural community between Albert Lea and Austin. The family was chosen from thousands of applicants to receive a new house from the nationally-aired television show. With their old farmhouse in disrepair, the family was nominated by a group of friends from church. The mother, Susan, who suffers from rapid heartbeat, is a music teacher, band director, first-grade reading specialist and bus driver. Her husband, Dirk, suffers from severe arthritis in his only hand, limiting his ability to make major home repairs.

Cemstone, Owatonna and Randall are honored to be able to help this family. The program will air on ABC-Television, December 7, 2008 at 7 pm CST.

Savage, Minn., Pacer newspaper features Cemstone pervious concrete

Pervious concrete was poured in two areas near the McColl Pond Environmental Learning Center (ELC) this week. The concrete is porous and allows stormwater to seep into the ground, instead of running off into the stormwater system. The ELC project is taking place on the west side of Community Park and is expected to be completed this fall. It is a sustainable development project, meaning the construction methods used in many aspects of the project will be environmentally friendly.
