LEED certified four-plex demonstrates the versatility of insulating concrete forms
Mendota Heights, Minn., October 9, 2007 – E² City Homes of Minneapolis, Minn., won top awards at the ICFA (Insulating Concrete Form Association) annual conference in St. Louis, September 25. Of the seven awards presented, E² City Homes received the ICFA Excellence Award for Sustainability. Cemstone Contractor Supply was the ICF distributor for the E² City Homes project, choosing Reward Wall Systems for the project.
“One of the meaningful things the ICFA does is recognize efforts to expand the industry. We are pleased they highlighted the work of our customers and other construction professionals for their roles in that effort,” said Hank Pfeiffer, Reward’s chief operating officer.
E² City Homes was completed in the spring of 2007. The project was recognized by ICFA for its LEED certification and energy-efficient features. The ICFs provided by Cemstone, Reward’s largest distributor, helped the contractor, Urban Project, earn points toward LEED (Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Design) certification.
The building’s structure of about 12,000 square feet contains a rain garden and landscaping suitable to the area’s climate. E² City Homes is one of the first muti-housing projects in Minnesota to receive certification under the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED guidelines.
“E² City Homes is an example of ICFs being used successfully in the multi-family housing industries,” said Pfeiffer. “Sustainable construction practices are becoming a more important part of the industry and the E² City Homes project demonstrates the importance of ICF construction in green building.”
